High Five

Every now and again a good dose of dumb luck is essential to capturing a photo. I was in the middle of moving across the country and had made a last minute decision for a detour to Monument Valley. I had been before, and simply wanted to stop by and enjoy the view for a little while, and then continue driving. Well I didn’t realize it was the time of year when at sunset the west mitten casts a perfect shadow on the east mitten. Sunset rolled around, and I pleasantly surprised by what was happening. I quickly got out the telephoto lens, snapped a few images, and that was that. Serendipity at its finest.
