I am an industrial designer with 15 years of agency and in-house design experience. My roles have allowed me to contribute at every stage of the development process, providing invaluable insight into what it takes to manifest an initial idea into a final product. From medical devices and consumer tech, and home appliances to mobility, my project work has taken me around the world and endlessly pushed my creative capacity. I’ve learned how to design and collaborate within a huge, global organization, while also understanding the supporting role of a consultant. I’m incredibly grateful to have perspective from both sides of the fence.
My approach tends to be pretty simple; observe and connect. It’s about balancing the obvious with the obscure, trusting the process, and enjoying the ride. The path may not always be linear, but the journey can be equally as important as the final product. As a designer, I will always find it humbling to play such a key role in bringing new ideas to life. I often reflect on my hand in creating more “stuff”, but I strive to bring a more holistic perspective to the table.

As a senior designer, I helped lead design efforts on projects for Fortune 500 companies like Honeywell and Google, while also working with nimble startups looking to define their position in emerging industries. Working alongside UX designers, mechanical designers, and creative directors, client projects ranged from 2 weeks to 10 months. As the creative lead on projects, my responsibilities included various forms of concept development, design research, prototyping, design documentation, and production-intent 3-D surfacing/rendering.

Working as a lead designer on the cooking products team, my efforts were focused toward the design and execution of a large number of built-in and sourced product platforms. This role required significant travel, planning, and collaboration with various remote teams (domestic and international), translation of consumer and industry insights into profitable business/design opportunities, and production-level design execution. My other efforts were directed towards brand development, consumer research, and future concept exploration.

Outside of the design world, I find inspiration in many places. Photography and travel definitely top the list. I’ve traveled near and far for work, so I tend to stay a bit closer to home for any adventures outside the office. Anything to do with getting outside and exploring the backcountry and I’m there - especially here in the Pacific Northwest. Backpacking, mountaineering, paddling, surfing, climbing - I can’t get enough of it. I simply love being in the mountains or on the water. I’ve dabbled in woodworking, beer brewing, and even some coffee roasting. It’s always nice to use your hands and make a mess every now and again. Someday I’ll have a shop space where I can get some furniture designs and other ideas out of my head. I grew up playing sports, and still have a healthy passion for soccer. I’d say I officially hung up the cleats, but I’m always a fan of knocking the ball around. If any of this sounds like fun to you, give me a shout.
Some of the things that keep me inspired.
